This is a Sequel to my ficlet 'Sentimental Value' found here: http://community.livejournal.com/sandfordpolice/64041.html#cutid1

Not absolutley dire for you to have read the first bit but I do briefly mention it. Anyway, fluff warning because I am the Queen of the hedonists!

Certainty

Nicholas scrubbed a hand down his face before using the same hand to pinch the bridge of his nose. Groaning he glanced down at the paperwork still present on his desk and resisted the urge to pull an ‘Andy’ and leave said paperwork until later. Unable to though he simply cricked his neck, groaned again and continued writing.

“You know, it ain’t going to go nowhere over night.”

Nicholas sighed (a little part of him in relief) and looked up to see Danny looking down curiously at the forms before his eyes flickered back up to Nicholas’s with a small hopeful smile.

“Was thinking we could go out tonight,” Danny continued and Nicholas fought back a little smile. ‘Out’ in Sandford generally meant ‘Pub’, somewhere that Danny and Nicholas seemed to frequent quite often.

Clearly taking Nicholas’s silence as indecision Danny pushed harder.

“Or we could stay in again, I don’t mind! Hey, we do still have all them special features on your ‘Point Break’ to get through yet,” he said, his eyes lighting up with excitement.

Nicholas could feel the beginnings of a blush building up his neck and he silently cursed it. Recently he’d found himself blushing more than he had ever before and he blamed it entirely on Danny, Danny and his endearing adoration, unfailing loyalty and puppy like enthusiasm.

If he was really honest he could pinpoint when exactly the ‘blushing epidemic’ had really taken hold and he could feel his stomach squirm excitedly as he recalled the other night at his cottage, which involved Danny, himself, Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze and a whole lot of hand-holding.

The simple memory of his and Danny’s palms pressed together, fingers linking together eventually, caused a tightness in his chest that wasn’t entirely unwelcome. He remembered the way their thumbs had danced around one another’s, a gentle massage that, if Nicholas had had the guts to, might’ve grown into something more.

Shaking his head minutely to clear it Nicholas looked up at Danny and his still hopeful expression. Smiling honestly Nicholas shrugged.

“And my paper work?” he asked quietly and Danny plopped down into a seat beside him leaning forwards with a grin.

“Bring it with you if you want…Com’ on Nicholas, please? All you’ve done all day is paperwork, I bet even you jus’ want to rest even just a little bit,” Danny leaned closer and he hesitated a moment before he gently touched Nicholas’s knee, then just as quickly pulled his hand back.

Nicholas watched the way he liked his lips nervously and couldn’t quite dispel the happy little thrill he’d gotten at the bold move. Inhaling sharply he looked down at the forms, twisted his lips in indecision before sighing and shuffling the papers together.

“I want to finish these sometime tonight though,” he said and smiled a little at Danny as the younger man snapped his fingers happily and jumped up.

“Yeah, boyiee!”

…………………………………………………………..

“Want anything to drink?”

“Anything that’s not Cranberry.”

Nicholas huffed out a laugh and searched his kitchen cupboards as he vaguely listened to Danny shuffling around in the living room. He fished out a couple of cans of Stella (most likely left there by one of Danny’s many visits) and went about looking for some nibbles for them. The hair on the back of his neck stood up a moment later though and he turned to see Danny leaning against the breakfast bar looking into his kitchen and was watching him quietly. Shuffling his feet awkwardly Nicholas turned to open another cupboard.

“What?” he said and glanced quickly over his shoulder then back.

Danny remained silent for another moment then spoke quietly, Nicholas turning enough to see him dancing his fingers over the counter-top nervously.

“How’d you know something about yourself for certain when you’ve never thought about it before?”

“Sorry?” Nicholas turned fully this time and headed over to Danny, handing him his beer as he did so and leaned against the bar so he was adjacent from the younger man.

Danny exhaled and bit his bottom lip as he avoided Nicholas’s eyes.

“How’d you know? Like, how’d you know you like cheesecake when you’ve never tried it?”

Nicholas frowned and sipped his own beer in confusion.

“Why do you want to know if you like cheesecake?” he said slowly and Danny huffed in frustration before (with what looked like a bit of difficulty) meeting Nicholas’s eyes.

“Not cheesecake, just…you know sometimes you know you like something but you’ve never tried it? How is it that you know for certain?”

Nicholas could feel a slight tug in his mind now and he had an incline as to where this conversation was going. Too afraid to presume however he settled himself down against the bar and leaned inwards slightly. Danny seemed to look thankful for this and leaned in more comfortably also.

“I guess,” Nicholas started, “that you just know. It’s about knowing your own boundaries and strengths, knowing whether you can go that extra mile or whether you’re maxed out. It’s instinctive.”

Danny pondered on that for a moment and then quickly glanced around before leaning in as though they might be over heard. Amused Nicholas mimicked him.

“I know I liked it when you ‘eld my hand,” he whispered before he leaned back out minutely. His fingers were twisting together nervously and Nicholas (his own insides twitching cheerfully) smiled. Confidently, knowing it was welcome, he reached across the bar and gently wrestled one of Danny’s hands free from the other so that he could curl his own hand around it.

Danny’s face lit up and he giggled.

Seemingly his confidence was growing because he leaned back in to continue with their conspiratorial conversation and he maintained a firm grip on Nicholas’s hand.

“It’s the other things I know I’d like though.”

“Really?” Nicholas said with a smile.

“Yeah you know, like, all that stuff the Andes talk about, only, you know…nicer,” Danny said. Nicholas couldn’t resist squeezing his hand and after a moment of deliberation he took his hand back (a brief pang of guilt running through him at Danny’s look of heart-breaking disappointment) and offering a small wink he climbed over the breakfast bar to join Danny on his side.

When he dropped down on the other side he took Danny’s hand up again (the beaming smile making its come back) and led him towards his sofa where he settled them down together closely, one leg bent under him and the other with his foot planted on the floor.

“I’m afraid in the time I’ve been here I’ve found the Detectives to have said a lot of things so you’ll have to be a little more specific,” he said firmly but maintained a small smile on his face so that Danny knew he was only teasing.

Danny’s face was in danger of splitting apart by this point and he shuffled closer much like he had that time when he’d first taken a shining to the then new Sergeant.

“You know, like…um, hugging and well, kissing…” Danny was flushing and Nicholas took Danny’s other hand so that he now held them both.

“Danny, can I ask you something?” he said seriously and Danny nodded, “have you ever done any of that stuff?”

“What, with other guys you mean? I ain’t a bender,” he said the last part wide-eyed but softly, not in a disgusted manner, “Least, I don’t think so anyways. I mean, I’ve done it with a girl and all.”

Nicholas frowned and resisted pulling his hands back.

“So…but I mean, you were just saying that…”

“The kissing and ‘olding and stuff I…I don’t want to do that with any old guy…I dunno, just something about you I guess.”

Nicholas seriously hoped that the pleasantly melted happy look he was feeling wasn’t obvious on his face because if it was he was pretty certain it’d make him look ridiculous.

Then again the only one who’d see was Danny, and that wasn’t so bad.

Smiling Nicholas strengthened his hold on the slightly clammy hands in his own.

“Is that right?”

“Yep, Doris reckoned I had a ‘man crush’ on you but I dunno, I don’t want to snog Keanu Reeves and Doris says I have a man crush on him too,” Danny said frowning slightly and Nicholas huffed out a laugh.

Danny’s gaze shifted back to his again so that hazel locked onto steely blue and the younger man grinned suddenly.

“What about you? You a bender? Because I’m not bothered by it,” he added quickly seeing Nicholas’s slightly narrowed eyes, “Jus’ wondering.”

“For the record the term is ‘homosexual’ or ‘gay’ but…well there was Janine but there was also…for a while at least…” Nicholas thought about it for a moment before he sighed, “I guess ‘bisexual’ is as good as it gets.”

Danny nodded vaguely but Nicholas smirked a little when he noticed that his eyes were a little lower than before, in fact they seemed to be looking in the general vicinity of Nicholas’s mouth.

“Nicholas?”

“Yes Danny?”

“Can I kiss you then?” he whispered and Nicholas smiled. Closing his eyes helpfully he leaned forward the slightest bit. He heard Danny giggle and felt a puff of air on his lips before they were carefully covered with another pair.

They stayed like that for a moment, lips just gently pressed together but after a moment Nicholas tentatively massaged the ones under his own whilst keeping it chaste. Danny quickly started to mimic him and soon they were tilting their heads slightly to better accommodate one another, all the while keeping the kiss innocent. Nicholas gently took Danny’ bottom lip between his own held it for a second before slipping back up to press them back together. A few more minutes of teasing and they pulled back enough to look at one another, flushed but happy.

“So? How do you feel about that?” Nicholas said quietly and Danny pretended to think on it before grinning.

“I think we’ll have to try again, just to be certain.”

Laughing Nicholas moved in again in tandem with Danny and they locked lips once more only this time after about a minute of chaste kissing the tip of Danny’s tongue snaked out to probe at the seam of Nicholas’s lips. Nicholas caved easily and opened his mouth slightly to allow the curious tongue inside, greeting it with his own. He heard Danny murmur something cheerfully and quickly discovered that smiling whilst kissing was damn near impossible.

Fun though.

They’d break every couple of minutes for air but they soon found themselves leaning against the back of Nicholas’s sofa, one of Danny’s hands on Nicholas’s hip and Nicholas’s hands cupping Danny’s neck. Thumbs moved in gently arches against sensitized skin and Nicholas had to fight down the urge to straddle Danny’s hips in fear of going to fast.

Finally, after what felt like centuries later they broke apart, both their heads resting against the sofa backing and they smiled as they looked at one another. One of Danny’s hands was still cupping the back of Nicholas’s neck and the older man reached up to gently encircle his wrist, his thumb moving in a circle of Danny’s pulse point.

“I think I quite like being gay,” Danny said a moment later and Nicholas burst out laughing.

“I rather doubt kissing one guy will make you homosexual overnight Danny, you have to decide that for yourself.”

“The Andes think I am anyways, but I reckon that’s just because they’re jealous yeah? Because Doris told me that she reckons she saw Wainwright checking out your ars…”

Nicholas lunged forward chuckling as he silenced Danny with a kiss and let out another laugh when Danny moaned distractedly. After a second he pulled back with a grin of his own.

“Doesn’t matter what the Detectives think Danny.”

“I dunno, if being gay means I get to kiss you then I don’t mind being a bender.”

Nicholas, ignoring the last bit, smiled brightly and leaned in closely so that there was barely even a centimetre between their lips and contently absorbed Danny’s look of awe.

“You know what? I think that paperwork can wait until the morning, what do you think?” he whispered huskily and he watched as Danny’s eyes dropped to his lips again.

“I always like your ideas,” he said in return and Nicholas smiled one last time before he claimed the lips before him once more.

No problem. Thanks for collecting the remains. Maybe some well-mixed gelatin and a me-shaped mold can fix this little problem. I'll have to see what my husband can do about this when he gets home.

Plaster? Actually you'd chip a bit too much. I hear pritt stick and blue-tack does wonders :P

Have you seen the one on Jimmy Kimmel where Nick Frost tries to convince a woman to stick her hand in a toilet to shove the cake down? Like a girl is going to put her hand in a toilet.

Still want cake, though. The second cake looks the best. I'd like a bit of that one.

“I think I quite like being gay,” Danny said a moment later and Nicholas burst out laughing.

AAAAAAH! is my response to that line. So fucking cute. It's like the joy of "you would have made a great muppet" from the movie. But with gayness.
